Rational Conference Innovate

It was called "RSDC" , short for Rational Software Developer Conference, now-a-days its called "IBM Rational Innovate".

I will blog some more interesting info on this in coming days.

2011 conference is the first Rational conference I don't deliver a presentation .

For those who want to know about Extending Rational Application Developer Capabilities please see the presentation here.

This time you may hear hot news about Rational Design Management. Watch Out !!

Eclipse India Summit 2009

The first day passed by with lots of sharing - I meant the Vanilla ice cream and Kajar Halwa Azmi took from my plate , other than knowledge of course!

Dull ! could the climate be outside but inside Chancery Pavilion Eclipse was no longer dull, slow, nerdy application anymore- Top companies eyeing for the Eclipse developer, it was showtime!
See my posts on Microsoft, Adobe presentations.

Ilya Shinkarenko shared some tips, I would definitely implement the IAdapter in recent future. Looking forward to his Eclipse Patterns sesssion. But unfortunately I cant spawn a parallel thread or the mini me to attend other parallel sessions. They could have been evenly spread for me to take a "byte" of each of the parallel topics! I did nibble on GEF and JPA 2.0 for a while.

The few stalls get your attention especially the developerWorks quiz , the BIRT stuff at Actuate and ofcourse the warmth, goodies and the fancy bag at the Progress stall ( Sonic MQ makers). You have very little time to spare for the stalls while you parallely share the Kajar Halwa after a very long queue for the lunch.

I look forward for the second day to be more exciting with RAD, Silverlight, BIRT and Google AppEngine.Time management was great, but many speakers had to rush at the end.

The hotel after hosting lot of techies, should consider correcting its google map presence. I had to call their fancy phone number to locate the hotel.

Solar or lunar, Eclipse is often considered unholy in India - but somehow I see a diamond ring :-)

Com-Flexly Simple ?

Adobe's Flex Builder can help in building a data grid from a service in "Flash" !

That's what Mayank and Sunil were telling the Eclipse India Summit 2009 attendees. They demonstrate how quickly a service can be consumed and converted in to a .swf file.

They say, the advantage should be that the whole UI application goes to the client, and since its inherently AJAX , lazy loading and has automatic paging etc. it should perform well. Most of the demo showed automatic code generation making CRUD operations really easy. I still have questions about maintenance and worried about narrowband towns.

Yeah! its really cool to see , oval on a WebSite screenshot to be converted in to a search textbox. The Flash Catalyst tool helps in converting PhotoShop image layers in to controls/widgets - its especially beautiful too a line and a box converted in to a scroll bar ! They say the web designer and web developer can work in iterations sending work back and forth.

Somehow I don't like to have more languages (declarative MXML and action script), especially when you have to print currency in 18 languages !

The Blue Elephant knows BharathaNatyam too !

Yes! IBM - the three letters that built watches and typewriters, have made computers that win Chess Genius, and runs most of the worlds financial data and pioneers in almost all fields related to computer science and technology and most importantly holds most number of patents and leading company in terms of number of patents! IBM is expanding its workforce in India.

Do you know that IBM has produced more Nobel laureates than any other company in the world !

Microsoft and Eclipse - Shift+1, Shift+1

Yeah!
This was the same question lingering in everyone's mind today, when a Microsoft person talks to a bunch of Java/Eclipse developers at Eclipse Summit, Bangalore. You know they are one of the platinum sponsors of the conference! Microsoft and Open Community - Do you believe it !

The Director of InterOperability stuff - Mr.Ramkumar Kothandaraman, shared the surprise to the audience when he started his speech saying interoperability is a long word for Microsoft ( I could hear people murmur - its not a long word , its long time they didn't want it). But now Microsoft looks like they have learnt that world wants them to fight in the market wide "Open".

As Ramkumar rightly put it, Microsoft is now "Competing and colloborating" with it competitors mainly IBM, Oracle+Sun, and Google of course.. They have Eclipse tooling for Silverlight (Rich Internet Applications - div tag with an object tag - sounds familiar - it should have "flashed" in your mind now !) and Azure ( Cloud Computing Platform similar to GoogleApp).

They also participate in most of the standards commitees and they have authored multiple standards ( including the OpenXML , Microsoft's contribution to open world, another method for Open Office Documents , similar to ODF). I always wonder if its standard, then it should be always one and only one !!!

They have PHP native Support in IIS server on Windows, i.e. not as CGI , no separate process anymore but a single process and hence efficient PHP Code running on Windows. When you have so many languages in your pocket already, That's what you call Open!

They also have CodePlex similar to SourceForge.net.

I think gone are the days when people complained about Microsoft that they are closed technology. Looks like they are now ready to colloborate and compete !

KEE Word

Long back, I started tech talks under the name "KEE" - Knowledge ExchangE, a forum to share knowledge about technology , mostly computer science.

I thought "KEE Word" would be the best name to name my blog !

I hope to write about technology, mostly from a developer's perspective, unbiased !

From the time I typed "DATE" command on MS-DOS PC on Green Screen ( Yeah, Matrix !) , I have shared this romantic relationship with computers ! People who know me, know that, "I am Loyal!"
